Brooklyn-based artist Daniel Arsham (born 1980) toys with our notions of what to expect from various materials and media, transcending the strict boundaries between art, architecture and performance. In so doing, he explores what is natural, what is fabricated, what has come about by chance and what is planned. His gouaches, sculptures and conceptual objects often mimic effects of subsidence, erosion or melting. Arsham graduated from Cooper Union, and received the Gelman Trust Fellowship in 2003. His work has been shown at institutions such as MoMA PS1, New York, and The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami, Florida, among many others, and he has collaborated with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company. This book is the only comprehensive monograph of his work available. It features three interviews with the artist and many images from gallery and museum shows and performances.
